CenturyLink experienced a network outage lasting several hours on Sunday that affected many websites, streaming platforms and video games in the United States and Europe. The US telecommunications company confirmed the outage.

All services were restored around 3 p.m. (French time). According to the Downdetector website, the outage lasted more than five hours. In France, online broadcasts of Ligue 1 matches were particularly affected.

We are able to confirm that all services impacted by today's IP outage have been restored. We understand how important these services are to our customers, and we sincerely apologize for the impact this outage caused.

The cause of the failure still unknown

At least 10,000 of the company's customers suffered from connection problems for several hours. Among them are major sites such as Amazon, eBay, Starbucks or even the Hulu streaming platforms and those of PlayStation network and XBox Live video games.

In France, Téléfoot subscribers found themselves with a black screen on the channel's applications, affecting the broadcasting of Ligue 1 matches. CenturyLink did not specify the reason for the outage, which could be linked to problems in the network of one of its data centers. In 2018, the company was also the victim of a massive bug affecting cash machines and emergency calls in the United States.
