An autopsy must take place with DNA cross-checking, the same source said, to see if it is the teenager who disappeared at sea. On Thursday, three children and their parents were bathing outside the monitored area, north of the Carcans beach, when they found themselves in difficulty in the water, probably in a baïne, a sort of natural basin forming at low tide, but which can then lead out to sea.
A 10-year-old child could have been brought back to the beach. But the 46-year-old father and 17-year-old daughter were swept away by the current, as was the other 13-year-old son. Rescuers quickly recovered the father, but he could not be revived. The searches, supported by a civil security helicopter then a military helicopter, then made it possible to recover the young girl's body. The 13-year-old son has remained untraceable despite searches.
