A more than profitable commission. Apple's “tax” on purchases made by “Fortnite” players would have brought in 360 million dollars to the Californian giant, according to calculations by Business Insider .

This gain is the result of Apple's policy, which takes 30% of the amounts spent by its users on applications available in the App Store. Business Insider  made its calculation based on data from Sensor Tower, a specialist in mobile applications.

Open war between "Fortnite" and Apple

According to analysts, since arriving on the App Store in 2017, “Fortnite” has been downloaded 133.2 million times. Video games are free, but users can purchase equipment and bonuses. The mobile version of the cult game is subject to a similar commission on the Google Play Store, on which it would have generated 10 million dollars in purchases.

Unhappy with these conditions, Epic, the publisher of Fortnite, reacted on August 13. The creators of the game have implemented a payment system bypassing the tax levied by Google and Apple. The two giants then quickly withdrew the title from their respective shops. Apple believes that Epic had not complied with the rules in force within the App Store. The editor of the day, for his part, filed a complaint against the American giant.
