If the WeChat app disappears from the App Store, iPhone sales in China (and elsewhere) could experience a noticeable drop. Messaging is indeed very popular with Chinese smartphone users.

The latter could be tempted to favor Android phones in order to continue using their app and the services it offers. In addition to written and voice messages, WeChat offers the possibility of obtaining information, making online purchases or making payments, explains the tech site 9to5Mac .

TikTok also in the sights of the US administration

If the app is only banned in the United States, specialist analyst Ming-Chi Kuo predicts a drop in iPhone sales of between 3 and 6%. But if messaging is no longer accessible worldwide, including in China, the drop could reach 30%.

Donald Trump recently banned US companies, including Apple, from doing business with WeChat. The president gave the companies concerned 45 days to comply with the directive. At the end of the period, Apple should therefore have removed WeChat from the App Store worldwide.

But the measure could ultimately be less stringent than expected and only affect certain countries. TikTok, another Chinese app, is also in Donald Trump's sights for the same reasons. The head of state wants the social network to sell its activities in the United States to an American buyer. Negotiations are said to be underway with several candidates, including Microsoft.
