Uber rolls out car rental service - Geeko

After its home meal delivery service, that of bicycle and scooter rental or its shared helicopter project, the transport car company with driver (VTC) is deploying its car rental offer in France. This service has only been offered in Australia since 2018, thanks to a partnership with the American company GetAround.

Users of the French version of the Uber app can now take advantage of Uber Rent to rent a car, thanks to a partnership with the American platform CarTrawler. It is also possible to go through the company's website to see the different car rental offers.

Buying at the end of the road

These offers vary enormously depending on the partners, the car models, but also the selected package. Thus, a user will be able to have a car for one month or for a period of two to three years, with the possibility of buying the car at the end of the contract with a reduction. There is also talk of a mileage package. Beyond this flat rate, customers will have to pay an amount for each additional kilometer traveled. In some cases, car insurance and maintenance are included in the price.

In effect, the VTC company itself does not offer rental vehicles, but simply acts as an intermediary between customers and established car rental companies. By doing this, Uber avoids having to invest crazy sums to build a fleet of vehicles for rental, but still offers such a service from its app as an intermediary. A way for the American company to diversify its services, but especially its sources of income after having suffered significant financial losses in 2019.

For now, the Uber Rent service is only available in Australia and France.
