xCloud: the cloud-gaming offer launched in September and integrated into the GamePass - Geeko

xCloud, Microsoft's cloud gaming offer, in beta testing for a few months, will be officially launched next September. Among the first countries to benefit from this - those where the service is already offered in beta - Belgium and France.

Good news for gamers: you will not need to take out an additional subscription. xCloud will be directly integrated into the Gamepass Ultimate and billed at 12.99 euros / month.

The service will position itself as the main competitor to Stadia, the Google cloud console. Unlike Stadia, xCloud will however not be accessible without a paid subscription and will integrate by default access to more than a hundred games, including some heavyweights such as Forza Horizon 4 , Red Dead Redemption 2 , Minecraft Dungeons , Gears 5 , PUBG or World War Z . Players will not have to "own" the games to play since the subscription to the Gamepass gives them the opportunity to play all the games included in this formula.

Having a console is not necessary

To be able to access the xCloud service, you will need to have a compatible smartphone or tablet. It will not be necessary to own an Xbox or a PC. The only prerequisites will be the Gamepass subscription and the gamepad.

The arrival of Microsoft in the cloud-gaming market is seen by many experts as a turning point for the sector. If there were already several players on the market, Microsoft is the only one to offer an all-in-one offer that is both accessible and attractive. Nvidia's GeForce offer indeed requires owning the games, just like that of Google (with the exception of the few games playable for free each month).
