Sébastien Soriano, president of the regulatory authority for electronic communications (Arcep), strongly opposed the National Digital Council (CNnum), reports Phonandroid . He responded on Twitter to the advisory committee, which recommends drastic measures to limit the impact of new technologies on the environment.

This roadmap, published on July 8, contains 50 measures that aim at “digital sobriety and digital at the service of the ecological and united transition”. One of the recommendations of the National Digital Council proposes the end of bundles with unlimited access to the Internet, including on landline, "in order to avoid an indirect subsidy of high-traffic users by all users".

Arcep's green light is necessary

The committee responded to the many negative reactions that were sparked by the announcement of this measure. She explains her wish to want to “sensitize” the small percentage “of customers with unreasonable uses and to encourage services to be more sober”.

Despite their justification, the recommendation struggles to convince. "Where telework has demonstrated its benefits during confinement, we will limit it by the increase in packages", criticizes a user on Twitter. The measure will not be able to come into effect without the agreement of Arcep, which recommends instead favoring WiFi over 4G, avoiding large attachments in emails, and preferring the purchase of refurbished devices over new. According to Phonandroid , senators would also support the ban on plans with unlimited Internet.
