Apple warns MacBook users not to tape the webcam. That could cause damage if you shut down the MacBook, the company writes.

Some users tape the webcam with tape to prevent it from being activated unseen. According to Apple, that is not a smart idea with the MacBook, MacBook Air and MacBook Pro because the laptop is "designed for very tight sizes" when folded.

Also, masking could cause problems with the light sensor needed to use features like the auto brightness setting.

Apple recommends that users simply pay attention to whether the light next to the webcam is on. In addition, according to the company, it is advisable to set which programs the webcam may use at all.
