Dozens of videos using anti-Semitic Nazi song as background music have been removed from the TikTok app. The platform had been alerted to the content of this content by the BBC. A clip posted online this Sunday notably featured a robot in the shape of a scorpion decorated with a swastika. The video alone has been viewed more than six million times, reports the British media.

Nauseous videos

The algorithm which ensures the operation of TikTok is even accused of being at the origin of the popularity of the sequence. Because the more a video is viewed, the more it is highlighted by the platform. In all, a hundred users took up the song after the first clip. They generated around 500,000 additional views in the few days they remained visible. For example, a video showed a shooting video game in which the ammunition was a gas can.

Others staged a character from the Roblox video game resembling Hitler or images taken from documentaries on the concentration camps. "We are going on a trip to a place called Auschwitz, it's shower time", we can hear in this nauseating song.

TikTok reacts

"We cannot spot all of the inappropriate content, but we are continuously improving our technologies and policies to ensure that TikTok remains a safe place for positive creative expression," said the social network.

"TikTok has a special obligation to deal with this content quickly because it specializes in broadcasting videos to children and young adults when they are most vulnerable," BBC Stephen Silverman said. from the British organization Campaign Against Antisemitism. The latter claims that the platform is "one of the fastest transmission vectors of memes mocking the Holocaust".
