Michael van Gerwen was eliminated in the second round on Sunday on the last day of the Summer Series. The 31-year-old darts player lost to South African Devon Petersen in the fifth Players Championship in Milton Keynes: 5-6.
Van Gerwen came back to 5-5 after a 0-5 deficit, but the eleventh and decisive leg went to Petersen.
In the first round, the number one in the world almost crashed against the Englishman Ryan Meikle, who left a match dart unused. Van Gerwen then won 6-5.
The Brabander won two titles this week on the return of the 'real' darts (on Wednesday and Friday). On Thursday he lost in the third round and on Saturday the first round was already the final destination for the three-time world champion.
The Dutch Jan Dekker, Mike van Duivenbode, Jitse van der Wal, Vincent van der Voort, Vincent van der Meer, Benito van de Pas, Niels Zonneveld, Maik Kuivenhoven, Jelle Klaasen, Ron Meulenkamp and Geert Nentjes were also after the first two rounds already from Sunday's tournament.
