iOS 14 will help you choose a strong password - Geeko

Since its presentation on June 22, iOS 14 gradually reveals its secrets as the developers investigate the code, including our colleagues from 9to5Mac. This is how a new security feature of the iCloud keychain was discovered. This will notify users of saved passwords that are likely to be easily hacked.

In fact, the keychain of iCloud allows to store and synchronize all the identifiers of a user via iCloud. The latter can then consult the identifiers that he uses to connect to various Web pages and applications from the settings of his iPhone or iPad, option Passwords.

It is on this page that the new version of the OS will indicate to users the level of security of their passwords, via the new menu "Security recommendations". Under this tab, the iPhone operating system will list the accounts for which the password is likely to endanger the security of accounts for various reasons.

Be aware of the risk posed by our passwords

iOS 14 will indicate whether this or that password is too simple and therefore too easy to guess or if it ended up in a database that leaked on the web, making it insecure. If iOS 13 offered some of these recommendations, iOS 14 goes further and says for example:

  • Lots of people use this password, which makes it easy to guess
  • This password is easy to guess
  • This password uses a sequence "123". The use of communication templates makes passwords easy to guess.
  • Compromise, appeared in a data leak

To determine if a password is compromised, Apple compares it to data breaches found on the web, all in a completely secure and encrypted manner. The firm also explains exactly how it works: “Safari securely monitors your saved passwords, automatically keeping an eye on passwords that may have been involved in a data breach. To do this, Safari uses powerful cryptographic techniques to regularly check the derivation of your passwords from a list of passwords that have been violated in a secure and private manner that does not reveal your password information - even to Apple. If Safari finds a violation, it can help you switch to Connect with Apple when available or automatically generate a new secure password. ”

You will have to wait until next fall to enjoy the final version of iOS 14.
