Google has started rolling out a dark mode for its office apps Docs (Docs), Sheets (Spreadsheets), and Slides (Slides) for Android. The company announces this in a blog post on its website.

Dark mode darkens menus and backgrounds, while text appears light. According to Google, the mode makes its office apps more usable in low light and works battery-saving for the phone.

The apps are automatically darkened if the Android device is set to a dark theme. Users can also choose whether they want to open the apps in dark mode or in the light variant.

Google is now rolling out the update. It may take several weeks before everyone can use it. It is not yet known when iOS users will receive the option.

Last year, Google promised to provide its own apps with a dark mode. Many of Google's apps are now available with this mode, including Gmail and Google Calendar.
