The Minimum Wage Committee, a social dialogue organization that deliberates and resolves the minimum wage, is entering a full-scale tug-of-war around today's (7th) next year's minimum wage.

The Minimum Wage Committee is scheduled to hold the fifth annual meeting at the Government Complex in Sejong this afternoon to continue reviewing the minimum wage for next year.

At the 4th meeting on the 1st, the labor and management sectors submitted their first request for the minimum wage for next year, but failed to start a full-scale discussion.

At that time, Joon-Sik Park, the Minimum Wage Commissioner, asked both labor and management to submit an amendment to the 5th meeting.

The minimum wage is reviewed by closing the gap in the initial demands made by both parties.

If the gap between labor and management is not narrowed, public interest committee members may present a'deliberation promotion section' to induce amendments within the scope.

Currently, the first request submitted by the labor industry is 10,000 won, up 16.4% from this year (8,590 won), and the management's first request is 8,410 won, which is 2.1% less than this year.

It is a situation in which the public interest committee members need to be co-ordinated because of differences in the positions of the two sides.

There is also an observation that if the deliberation proceeds smoothly, the minimum wage for next year can be decided at the 6th power meeting held on the 9th.

Chairman Park Jun-sik presented the next Monday, the 13th, as the deadline for reviewing the minimum wage for next year.

Considering that the final deadline for the minimum wage is August 5th, the next year's minimum wage deliberation should be completed at the latest in the middle of this month.
