The Var firefighters have just launched a call for widespread disconnection. They are warning parents against excessive use of their connected devices, such as smartphones and tablets. Parents who supervise their children are indeed much less attentive when they consult their smartphone. An attitude that can put children at risk.

The Var firefighters sound the alarm: they call on parents to avoid consulting their phone or tablet when they have to watch their children. As the long vacation begins, a drama can indeed happen in the space of only a few seconds and without noise. "I admit that I am a little distracted from time to time when the phone rings. SMS, notifications ... At this precise moment, we were not looking at our children," admits a father.

The smallest are also the most exposed

However, at the water's edge in particular, this need to stay connected can have serious consequences. The Var firefighters have therefore chosen to broadcast a clip on social networks in which they invite parents to disconnect from their devices.

"This campaign aims to get the parents or the supervisors of the children to stay connected to the children and to leave the tablets and the phones elsewhere while the children bathe", summarizes the commander Florent Dossetti with Europe 1. "Time to look a video on the phone, reading an SMS or looking at your Facebook or Twitter profile is enough for the disaster to happen, "he said.

Children aged six are the first victims of these accidents in private pools. Often, they drown without making noise even a few meters from the parents.
