She doesn't believe it herself. "We launched them yesterday at 2:00 pm and the minute the web collapsed. People pounced on them ." The speaker is Boticaria García , pharmacist, nutritionist and publicist, who attends EL MUNDO by phone. This Wednesday, she and her team brought out a collection of reusable and solidarity fabric masks (100% of the benefits for Unicef and AECC), and the success has been such that one of the designs has already been sold out. "The entire community has been very generous . "

The project arose as a consequence of Boticaria García's activity in networks and media. She is a contributor to this newspaper and since the coronavirus pandemic began, she has carried out an outreach work on the myths and realities of the disease . But, deep down, he felt that he had to do "something more tangible" : "He thought he had to do more than share information and disclosure, give material help that could reach people ."

So he got down to work, and decided to embark with a team of friends on the task of making masks, he suggested, "that people would like to put them on." And that, of course, they comply with the regulations. All the products made so far have followed the government's instructions (type of Manly fabric, reusable materials, etc.) and respect the UNE 0065 specification .

At the moment, there is more than one design and the packs are made up of three hygienic masks for both adults and children. It is the first edition and "many people have run out of them" , but the wish is, after solving problems with the website and orders, that there be more than one series in circulation.

Teamwork

The project has not been carried out alone. Boticaria García has had the help of some friends to solve other aspects: quality, production, fabrics and designs. Paloma Hernández , who runs 'Bag & Block', was in charge of the entire section of the regulations. A local producer from Zamora, Ángel Iglesias , started making the masks. And María Dolores Alfaro , designer, made and designed all the drawings that appear represented in the product.

One of those designs was planned, by the way, as a tribute to the victims . Specifically, the one that has the sky of Zamora represented, with stars that symbolize, according to Boticaria, "the people who have left in silence." She and the journalist Arantxa Castaño , who has also worked on the project, wanted "that rural part" to be present in the masks.

100% solidarity

All the products sold are also 100% charitable. Boticaria García wanted to remember that the proceeds will go entirely to Unicef and the Spanish Association Against Cancer . One half to the agency that provides humanitarian and development aid to children and mothers in developing countries, and the other half to the AECC delegation in Belmonte, the town of Boticaria.

"We are now focused on the coronavirus problem, but the cancer is still there, and people and patients and family members also need help more than ever," he said. Global and local help .
