WhatsApp has announced the rollout of animated stickers, a dark mode for the web version and other new features on its blog. The update will be made available to users in the coming weeks.

The chat service announced, among other things, animated stickers. It allows users to download sticker packs to send moving pictures to others. A week ago, the moving stickers were already found in a beta version of WhatsApp.

With this, WhatsApp follows other chat apps, such as Telegram and Facebook Messenger, that already offer moving stickers. For the time being, only still stickers could be used on WhatsApp.

WhatsApp also adds a dark mode to WhatsApp Web. This feature was already available in the mobile version. This darkens the app's backgrounds and menus, and makes the letters white.

Add contacts with a QR code

You can now add new contacts on WhatsApp by scanning a user's QR code. According to the service, this makes it easier to add people, because numbers no longer need to be retyped.

In addition, it is possible to visualize a particular participant in video calls by pressing and holding on the person. Normally, participants in a conversation are shown in smaller windows on the screen.

Not every WhatsApp user will be able to use the new functions immediately. The service will roll out the update in the coming weeks.
