India has banned 59 apps connected to China, claiming it is a security and defense threat. According to the government announcement, TikTok, the UC browser of the Internet company Alibaba, the messenger WeChat and Bigo Live, as well as the shopping platforms Club Factory and Shein, are now prohibited. There were growing concerns about the data protection of 1.3 billion Indians and the security of their data, the message said - and thus against a threat to the sovereignty and security of the country.

The Indian Ministry of Information Technology has received information that some cell phone apps are being misused for the stealing and secret transmission of user data to servers outside India. The government is concerned about the data being collected and analyzed by the country's enemies. The bans are therefore necessary.

The blocking of the apps was preceded by fighting between Indian and Chinese soldiers on the common border in the Himalayas. 20 Indian soldiers were killed. The two countries had waged war on the border decades ago.
