I'm worried about is that this group of food poisoning leads to a serious complication called so-called hamburger disease. Four of the children with this disease have poor kidney function and are currently receiving dialysis treatment.

Health authorities collected 295 specimens, including kindergarten children, school staff, and families.

As the tests progressed, the number of infected people continued to increase to 57, of which 24 were receiving hospital treatment.

Since the test is in progress, there may be more people infected.

In particular, 15 of the confirmed patients are suspected of complications called hemolytic uremic syndrome, so-called'hamburger disease'.

In this case, it is important to be treated on time because various symptoms such as anemia and platelet reduction appear in addition to decreased kidney function.

In fact, 4 out of 15 suspected patients suffer from dialysis treatment at a large hospital due to poor kidney function.

[Lee Joo-Hoon/Professor of Pediatric Nephrology, Seoul Asan Hospital: Most of them are supposed to recover to normal. In some patients, kidney function is worsened and progresses to a chronic kidney disease that cannot be recovered, so it seems to be well monitored.]

Intestinal hemorrhagic E. coli is highly toxic compared to other E. coli, and can be infected in very small amounts.

About 5% of kidney function is not restored and may require lifelong dialysis.

[Parents with hemolytic uremic syndrome: Dialysis is heard, so the wives cry and we and our parents will feel the same way.]

More than 100 people with enterohemorrhagic Escherichia coli occur every year, but it is very unusual for so many patients to be infected with the group .

It is important to be treated in a hospital, as complications can occur if a child sees bloody stools along with enterocolitis.
