Google removes extensions from Avast for improper user data collection - Geeko

Google has chosen World Refugee Day, Saturday June 20, to announce its collaboration with the United Nations High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR) in the framework of a project to help displaced populations. The Californian giant said on his blog that he made a donation of 550,000 dollars (or 485,000 euros) to the organization in order to "instill in refugees the digital skills necessary for future opportunities".

The funds offered by Google.org and YouTube are in fact intended to "provide refugees with the elements enabling them to survive the pandemic, digital training series and Google Search updates in the countries concerned so that people have access to reliable information at all times ”. This last part of the project will allow displaced people to type a practical question into the search engine and get a direct answer.

Lebanon, Turkey and Jordan targeted

Google and UNHCR have worked together to identify the most common questions people are forced to seek refuge in a country other than their own. The two entities have also worked on the official and authoritative information and data to provide in response to requests.

To illustrate the nature of these, Google cites as an example "How to meet the criteria for obtaining financial assistance?" "Or" How does the interview granting refugee status take place? " The Menlo Park company specifies that this platform is already available in Arabic, English, Farsi and Turkish in order to provide assistance to refugees present in Lebanon, Jordan and Turkey.

It is in these three countries that there are the largest number of refugees compared to the local population. The Google publication recalls that at the end of 2019, "persecution, conflict, violence and human rights abuses" had displaced 79 million people around the world.
