During election periods, advertisements of a political nature abound on social networks. But Facebook will roll out a new feature to remedy this problem. This new function will allow users of the social network, as well as those of Instagram, not to see political advertising appear in their news feed.

“Political advertisements play an important role in every election [...]. People have told us they want to be able to see fewer political ads on Facebook and Instagram, "said a post on the Facebook blog. "As of today, for certain users, and for everyone in the United States in the coming weeks, people will be able to deactivate all advertising of a social, electoral or political nature," specifies the American giant.

Other potentially affected countries

This new feature will be launched as a priority in the United States, in preparation for the 2020 American elections. But Mark Zuckerberg's company is already considering offering this type of control in other countries.

To deactivate political ads, simply go to the Facebook and Instagram ad settings and activate the corresponding option. “We know our system is not perfect. So, if you have selected this preference and you still see an advertisement that you consider political, please click on the upper right corner of the advertisement and report it to us, ”recalls Facebook.
