  • Chronicle - my stray wise cat and me

Bob , the cat who inspired his owner, James Bowen , to write the book saga A stray cat named Bob , has died, as Bowen himself has confirmed.

The books are inspired by the author's relationship with this stray cat that he found abandoned and injured in 2007, while he was trying to get out of a heroin addiction, and decided to take care of him. Bowen thus began taking Bob with him as he played on the street and sold the popular The Big Issue , the magazine founded in 1991 whose sale provides income for the homeless.

She later wrote the book about her relationship with her cat and the story was made into a movie in 2016.

In a note posted on his Facebook page , Bowen admits that Bob saved his life: "As simple as that," he says, "gave me much more than company. With him by my side, I found the path and the determination that was missing. "

He adds that the success that the two found was "miraculous", as the story reached millions of people, and acknowledges that "there never was a cat like him and there never will be." "I feel," he says, "as if the light had been turned off in my life. I will never forget it."

According to local media, the cat died a few days ago at an age of around 14 years. For its part, The Big Issue also released a note highlighting that it will not forget the impact Bob has had on the lives of James Bowen and those of other newspaper sellers. "Our condolences go out to James and everyone who has been touched by this amazing cat," adds the magazine.

Bowen landed a contract for the book in 2012 after a local journalist told the story of this relationship. The autobiographical book was a best seller and was followed by Bob's World , Bob's Gift, and Bob's Little Book , which are estimated to have sold over eight million copies together in more than 40 languages, according to Hodder & Stoughton .

A stray cat named Bob was taken to the movies, with the performance of Luke Treadaway as Bowen and the performance of the cat Bob as himself.
