Jon Prosser, a specialist in information concerning future Apple products, spoke on Monday of the existence of a foldable smartphone prototype developed by the brand, reports the Gizmodo site . The latter would have opted for a different format from the flexible screen devices presented by other manufacturers, such as Samsung or Motorola. "The current prototype consists of two separate screens connected by a hinge," wrote the expert on Twitter.

Apple's “foldable” iPhone isn't really a foldable. 🧐

The current prototype has two separate display panels on a hinge.

Round, stainless steel edges like current iPhone 11 design.

No notch - tiny forehead on outter display that houses Face ID.

Surprise and mocking reactions from Internet users have quickly multiplied on the social network. Faced with these returns, often tinged with irony, Jon Prosser wanted to reassure regarding the quality of the model under development. "The memes are funny, but it doesn't seem like they just put two screens together," he said. Even if there are indeed two separate panels, the display seems rather continuous and without break when it is enlarged ”.

A patent has been filed by Apple

Gizmodo believes that the prototype seen by Jon Prosser could be one of the many foldable terminal projects that Apple is working on. The Californian giant has filed a patent for a two-part screen capable of transforming when unfolded. It is nevertheless unlikely that the company will seriously consider competing with the flexible smartphones of its main rivals with a product with such an unsuccessful appearance and so far from the brand's usual standards.

Still, Jon Prosser said that the device he had seen had "a design similar to that of the iPhone 11". One who is also a recognized youtubeur describes "rounded edges in stainless steel, […] no notch, a very small part at the front of the external display screen which houses Face ID".
