The Dyson V11 Absolute Extra stick vacuum and its sci-fi gadget air. - DYSON

  • The new V11 Absolute Extra stick vacuum from Dyson succeeds the V11 launched a year ago and now has a removable battery.
  • Supplied with seven brushes, including its "High Torque" brush which adapts its suction power to the nature of the soil, the device is very efficient and practical to use.
  • However, it suffers from a slightly high weight which can constrain long cleaning sessions and from an excessive price: 659 euros.

The futuristic look of the Dyson V11 Absolute Extra would almost make it a weapon for science fiction film. Somewhere between lightsaber in Star Wars and Fulguropoint in Goldorak… But it is indeed in our daily universe that this new broom vacuum cleaner intends to pulverize an invader named dust. As deconfinement enters a new phase, it obviously has an ideal pedigree to make room in our interiors, but also to clean and sanitize a restaurant, a coworking space, even a cinema thanks to an announced autonomy of more than 40 minutes and many accessories.

Autonomy adapted to all surfaces

The iconic design of Dyson vacuums does not change much, but the technology advances. With the ambition to relegate your old canister vacuum cleaner or corded broom vacuum cleaner to the closet, the new V11 Asolute Extra aims to be simplicity embodied. Succeeding the Dyson V11 Absolute, it is now fitted with a removable battery. If the vacuum cleaner can fill up with energy on its wall charger (in just over 3 hours), it is also possible to replace its battery with a second (optional, sold for 149 euros).

Unless you have a castle, this will probably not be necessary: the autonomy of the V11 Absolute Extra flirts with 45 minutes in Auto mode. Sufficient for daily cleaning, the evacuation of crumbs under the tables or popcorn between two cinema seats. If you activate the Boost mode, the autonomy drops to 8 minutes. However, this mode is only necessary for surfaces that are difficult to clean, such as car mats, for example. It is the small LCD screen integrated at the top of the vacuum cleaner which allows you to select the suction mode of the device, but also to know at any time its remaining autonomy. This is even indicated to the nearest second!

A smart brush that (really) makes a difference

Supplied with seven brushes to vacuum all surfaces, the V11 Absolute Extra really stood out during our tests with its so-called “High Torque” brush. To be clipped to the end of the metal hose of the vacuum cleaner, it is motorized. Made of rigid bristles (for carpets and rugs) and flexible bristles (for hard floors), the brush automatically adapts the suction power of the V11 according to the surface where it ventures.

Explanation: unlike simple tiles to vacuum, a carpet or a floor mat requires more power for the dust to be cleaned and vacuumed. In use, it can be seen on the screen of the vacuum cleaner that its autonomy is modified as a result: the thicker the surface to be vacuumed, the more the motor and thereby the energy of the battery are used.

Rest of the results visible to the naked eye: our entrance mat really took a facelift after the passage of V11, while our coconut living room carpet restored the crumbs that an ancient confined aperitif had probably hidden there . The hairs of our white cat who insisted on taking its naps on our office chair covered with dark fabric have not had more luck. No respite either for the hair on the bathroom floor or the pills taking refuge under the bedroom bed…

Heaviness and lack of balance

Handy, although a little heavy (almost 3 kg at arm's length, including 780 g for the battery only), the V11 Absolute Extra goes almost everywhere. Too bad it doesn't stand up on its own, as does the Hoover H-Free 500 vacuum cleaner that we tested or the new Miele Triflex that we will soon be taking in truth serum.

After vacuuming, a glance at the translucent collector of the vacuum cleaner (capacity: 0.76 liters) clearly shows that dust is everywhere in our environment, even on very regularly cleaned surfaces that we imagined clean. Micro particles are pouring in ... This collector is emptied into a trash can using very simple handling which allows it to eject its contents without causing surrounding dust to fly. It is rather well seen. As for the vacuum cleaner filter, it simply rinses with water.

The V10 for tighter budgets

Upon arrival, very difficult to dispute the performance of the device. Otherwise its slightly excessive weight, it is obviously the price of the V11 Absolute Extra which is likely to put off: 649 euros. More economical (499 euros), the V10 launched in 2018 can satisfy many household desires. But it does not have the famous “High Torque” brush, its battery is not removable and the noise it gives off is not very pleasant. And Dyson says it: its suction power is up to 20% lower.

The world of stick vacuums is not about to run out of steam. According to Gifam, 11% of French people own one and sales explode. In 2019, floor maintenance occupied a quarter of the revenue of the vast universe of small household appliance products.
