The United States confirmed to Reuters on Monday that it will amend its bans on American companies doing business with Chinese company Huawei and allow them to work together to set standards for next-generation 5G networks .

The US Commerce Department and other agencies signed the rule change, and is awaiting publication in the Federal Register, close sources have reported to Reuters.

United States Secretary of Commerce Wilbur Ross confirmed in a statement that the agency will publish this measure on Tuesday.

"The United States will not relinquish leadership in global innovation," Ross said. "The department is committed to protecting US national security and foreign policy interests by encouraging the US industry to fully commit to and advocate for American technologies to become international standards."
