In May, the second highest sales of second-hand cars ever reached with 111,146 used cars by car companies, trade association BOVAG reports on Wednesday. This would be related to the demand for alternatives among people who usually travel by public transport.
About half of people who usually travel to work by public transport plan to choose alternative transport from now on. 57 percent of that group opts for the car. In fact, 8 percent of respondents in this group say they will buy a car. 1 percent want to rent, borrow or lease a car.
In April, occasion sales due to the corona measures fell by more than 26 percent compared to a year earlier, and in March the decline was 14 percent. The recovery can only be seen in May.
Private individuals also sold considerably more second-hand cars in May. It concerned 73,433 occasions, which is 17.6 percent more than in the same period a year earlier.
The BOVAG survey was conducted among 1,185 consumers.
