BMW presented the new 4 Series on Tuesday. To create more distinction between the 3 Series and 4 Series, BMW reverts to a family face from the first half of the last century, namely a huge grille.

Previously, the characteristic BMW grille, also called kidneys by enthusiasts, was oriented horizontally. For the first time since the BMW 503 from 1956, these kidneys are again truly vertical to the bottom of the car.

The new 4 Series is very similar to the Concept 4 shown last year, when the grille caused a lot of dust, but BMW has therefore continued. In fact, it seems that the M3 will also have such a front side.

Inside, the differences with the 3 Series are a lot smaller. BMW says it has done more work on the sound insulation. The safety systems are also slightly more extensive. For example, the 4 Series in the traffic jam can automatically make room for the emergency services.

4 Series available with petrol and diesel engines

The 4 Series will be released in October and will then be available with petrol and diesel engines. The international engine list starts with a 184 hp petrol engine, which helps the car with an acceleration time of 7.5 seconds. The 258 hp 430i takes 5.8 seconds to do that.

The M440i is the provisional top model with its 374 hp and mild hybrid technology. This version shoots at 100 kilometers per hour in 4.5 seconds. Enthusiasts will look forward to the M4, which will be presented later. This version gets a whopping 510 hp

The diesels also receive support from mild hybrid technology and deliver 190, 286 and 340 hp respectively. All engines are linked to an automatic transmission.
