A 4.8 GB update for macOS - Geeko

The macOS Catalina update requires 4.8GB of available storage space for the installation of version 10.15.4.

An option has been added to control the visibility of video tiles during group calls on FaceTime. Thumbnails will not change size automatically when a participant speaks.

Intelligent battery management

Battery health management is introduced in the energy saving settings. To preserve the condition of the battery, it will no longer charge up to 100%. This feature can be disabled.

This smarter battery management is identical to that of iOS 13. It can improve the longevity of the battery when a user uses a lot of his Mac connected to the mains, for example. Also note that "the Energy Saver preferences panel now displays the battery status and recommends if the battery should be repaired".

For Pro Display XDR screens, controls are integrated for more precise calibration, "by adjusting white point and luminance".

Bug fixes

Regarding bugs, the update resolves some problems, such as a recurring notification badge, difficulties in detecting a built-in camera or a problem that could prevent reminders to send notifications of recurring reminders.

Catalina also allows the resolution of a bug that could prevent the entry of the password on the login screen, the improvement of the detection of internal speakers on Mac computers with the Apple T2 security chip and finally a better stability of downloads from the iCloud photo library when the Mac is in standby.
