In 2016, the Park Geun-hye government forcibly ended the special investigation committee of the Sewol ferry disaster on June 30.

The reason for the fact that January 1, 2015, the effective date of the Sewol Special Law, is counted as the date of commencement of activity is that 1 year and 6 months have expired.

The opposition parties and the Special Committee said they should view the starting point of the activities as of August 4, 2015, when the committee was formed, but the Park Geun-hye government cut off electricity and budgets and returned government officials.

[Uh Sang-ho / Independence Democratic Party (August 1, 2016): Please extend the investigation period so that you can investigate properly. The

special investigation team of the Sewol ferry tragedy passed the trial after reporting that nine high-level officials including Lee Byung-ki, secretary-general of the Blue House at the time, policy coordination chief Hyun Jeong-taek, and Minister of Maritime Affairs and Fisheries Kim Young-suk intervened.

It is a charge that has interrupted the investigation, such as stopping the appointment of the Commissioner of the Special Task Force, and not dispatching 17 officials.

It was also revealed that Ki-Hwan Jung at the time of the resignation of former chairman Lee Heon-ho, who refused to resign, suggested that he serve as the chairman of the Korea Legal Aid Corporation.

The special group said it was not included in the prosecution because there was not enough evidence that former President Park Geun-hye, who had not responded to the investigation, had reported or ordered this.
