Microsoft is investigating the potentially leaked source code of the original Xbox, a spokesperson told The Verge . According to the American news site, which writes to confirm that it is the original software, the source code appeared online in early May.

The leaked software is said to include code from the heart of the operating system. This so-called kernel is a modified version of Windows 2000. According to The Verge , the kernel's code was previously privately passed.

In addition, according to the news site, the leak also contains internal documents and programming and testing software. The information can be used to build unofficial emulators: virtual versions of the Xbox that can be used to play games.

It is unclear where exactly the leaked source code comes from.
