The Spanish Data Protection Agency (AEPD) has opened an investigation against the Spanish app to track Covid-19 cases , as reported on its Twitter account.

"The AEPD begins investigative actions to obtain information on the COVID-19 potential infected persons tracking app announced yesterday by the Vice President and Minister of Economic Affairs, a project of the Secretary of State for Digitization and Artificial Intelligence," reads the announcement by the Agency on the social network.

The Covid-19 Government Self-Assessment and Potential Contagion Tracking App is available for free at Android and Apple app stores.

This is an App that arises as an initiative of the General Secretariat for Digital Administration, which reports to the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Digital Transformation and which has been commissioned by the agreement formula to Telefónica .

For its use, the application requires a series of permissions, among which is the DNI, access to geolocation, entering the home address and access to the user's Wi-Fi connections.

The Agency's announcement comes 24 hours after its director, Mar España, met with the Minister of Justice, Juan Carlos Campo and the Secretary of State for Justice, Pablo Zapatero to learn about the actions of the AEPD in the framework of the Covid-19 Pandemic.
