French government wants to launch platform to compete with Airbnb - Geeko

By 2021, the project for an Airbnb site made in France should be completed. "This platform will aim to strengthen the coordination, steering and articulation of French tourism offers", according to a press release from the Interministerial Tourism Committee on May 14.

Made in France

Eric Lombard, the managing director of Caisse des Dépôts, said that tourism should no longer go through large companies, such as the American giant Airbnb or the Dutch platform Booking, at the microphone of BFM. "We have to reclaim the link with customers," he explains. The platform should allow access to all of the French tourist offer. Eric Lombard explains that if a tourist wishes, he must be able to "know where the breweries are, what time the national museum opens", for example. "On a platform that we master, we in France," he adds.

As a reminder, last summer 8.5 million French people used Airbnb for their holidays, according to Le Parisien.

The site will not be ready for this summer

At the same time, the Airbnb platform publishes French research trends for their holidays. Confined to their homes, the French reached 21.2 million searches between April 15 and May 15 on the platform. "50% of them are projected on the summer period with research on July-August while 20% looked for accommodation for getaways during the coming month", specifies Airbnb on its site.

The different actors of the project should launch a call for projects "to companies and start-ups ready to offer innovative solutions to help build the tourism of tomorrow".
