Containment Boosts Application Downloads - Geeko

If the pandemic has plunged many industries, it has propelled others. This is particularly the case for mobile applications which met with immense success during containment. The company Adjust has also addressed the issue in its Global App Trends 2020 report, which shows how the coronavirus has impacted the consumption habits of smartphone owners.

In general, the number of application downloads and sessions has increased since the start of containment. Mobile games were the most successful apps during this period. The latter recorded a 47% increase in sessions and 75% in installations compared to the first quarter of 2019. An increase in downloads which rose to 132% at the end of March.

However, the increase in the number of mobile game installations does not seem to have had any significant effect on users' playing times, according to Adjust.

Professional and catering applications

Mobile games aren't the only ones that benefit from containment. With the introduction of generalized teleworking, many workers have turned to professional applications to continue their work (VPN, videoconferencing apps, etc.). The installation of these types of applications increased by 70% compared to the previous year and the number of sessions recorded an increase of 105%. A boon for these apps since many workers have opted for a premium version of the software.

The top 3 categories of applications that are particularly popular during containment close with catering apps. With the closure of the dining rooms, many addresses began to offer their card upon delivery. This is how restaurant applications recorded 73% more sessions compared to the first quarter of 2019 and a 21% increase in installation.

On the other hand, after an increase in popularity, e-commerce applications have been declining since the end of March.
