Today (1st), around 12:07 during the day, two people died because a fire-fighting helicopter crashed about 400m from Cheonwangbong Peak in Jirisan Mountain, Sancheong-gun, Gyeongnam Province.

The helicopter is believed to have crashed during rescue operations by sending a stretcher down the line while low in the air.

The accident resulted in serious injuries to a 65-year-old and a 61-year-old woman who had symptoms of cardiac arrest during mountaineering, but died.

The patient went down with the helicopter, and the wife helped the rescue from below and bumped into the main wing of the helicopter.

Five people, including a lifeguard on board a fire-fighting helicopter, were reported to have been injured.

As a result of the video verification by the fire department, it was confirmed that the rescue rope connected to the helicopter rattled, seemingly caught up in something, and crashed while pulling the stretcher up.

The fire department is setting up an on-site command post to tackle the accident site, and will investigate the cause of the accident and provide support for the victim's family.
