Facebook has decided to roll out its Facebook Gaming app earlier than planned. The app, which is intended for sharing game videos and playing simple casual games, can be installed on Android smartphones from Monday, writes The New York Times .
With the app, Facebook aims to compete with YouTube and Twitch, the two most popular game streaming sites. The rollout follows a period of almost two years in which Facebook conducted tests around the gaming platform.
Facebook Gaming has been accessible for some time via the website and the general Facebook app. In early April, Facebook announced it would make a new Tournaments feature for e-sports tournaments accessible earlier than planned.
In a response to The New York Times, Facebook states that it is releasing the app earlier due to the corona crisis. There is much more gaming because people are now sitting at home.
