In the coming period, the municipality of Rotterdam will use two camera cars to monitor compliance with the measures against the corona virus.
To prevent the further spread of the virus, people must keep a distance of 1.5 meters. Gathering with three or more persons is also prohibited. People who break the rules risk a fine of 390 euros.
The camera cars will supervise group formation and keeping a distance at parks and squares in Rotterdam. They are also used in a number of closed areas in Rotterdam, such as football cages and skate parks, to prevent crowding.
The cars send the images to a central point, from where camera experts switch with enforcers and police. The driver of the camera car should not leave the car and observe it alone.
The cars were intended to be used during the Eurovision Song Contest. Because the Eurovision song contest was canceled this year, the municipality is now using the cars to enforce all measures due to the corona virus.
The privacy of residents is not at stake with this commitment, the municipality assures. "At the moment there are already cameras all over Rotterdam. The video cars are an extended arm of them," the municipality writes.
