Google's business video calling app, Hangouts Meet, is now called Google Meet, according to a blog post the company posted on its website. For the time being, the name of the business product partly corresponded to the consumer version of the video bubble app, which is simply called Hangouts.

In 2017, Google announced that it would also use its Hangouts brand for its business products. The company launched a business video calling and chat service under the name Hangouts Meet and Hangouts Chat.

The consumer version of Hangouts has persisted, although Google is calling on users to switch to its other apps. Hangouts, in turn, also has additional features for business users. The app is being phased out and will eventually disappear completely, but when exactly is unclear.

In addition to changing the name Hangouts Meet to Google Meet, the use of the service does not change at its core. A business subscription is required to start a video meeting with Google Meet. The service makes it possible to meet with up to 250 participants at the same time.

Hangouts, the consumer version, supports up to ten participants. No business subscription is required to start a video call, but business customers will get an extension of up to 25 participants per call.
