The Disney + streaming service has 50 million paying users worldwide, The Walt Disney Company announces on its website. The milestone follows seven months after the service first became available in the Netherlands in September.
Disney + allows users to stream and download movies and series from the Disney empire, including Marvel and Star Wars productions. In some cases the productions are provided with Dutch audio.
In November, Disney + also became available in the United States, after which the company also rolled out its streaming service in eight European countries in recent weeks. On Friday, the service also became available in India, which offers a large market due to its population.
Due to the corona crisis, Disney has lowered the video quality of its streaming service in the European countries where Disney + became available in recent weeks. With this step, Netflix, YouTube and Apple are also responding to a call from the European Commission to reduce the pressure on internet traffic in this way.
