Jack Dorsey, the CEO of Twitter and Square Inc., is donating $ 1 billion (920 million euros) to fight the corona virus. He announces this on Twitter.
The money comes from his own capital. Dorsey says his donation amounts to 28 percent of his total private wealth.
He pays the money with shares of his internet payment company Square. Via a public Google Doc you can follow how the money is moved through its private company Start Small, from where the donation is distributed to beneficiaries.
Dorsey says she wants to work transparently "so that others can learn from it." "I hope this inspires others to do something like that."
In addition to Dorsey, many other celebrities and leaders have donated money. For example, Amazon director Jeff Bezos announced he would donate $ 100 million to US food banks. Bill Gates has "just in case" built factories to develop vaccines.
