WeWard: an application that pays its users to walk - Geeko

The objective is to accumulate Wards. Wards are points that you can convert to euros, products or discounts. Concretely it is a digital currency.

The word Ward means neighborhood. The objective is to make you shop in local shops. Shops that have partnered with the startup.

Walk more to earn more

The application is free and available on Android and iOS. Your steps are counted and you must reach levels. But you can also participate in Challenges.

The money collected can be spent on the application store. Or directly paid into the user's account. The founder of We Ward, Yves Benchimol explains to Maddyness that the purpose of the app is to increase "the turnover of partner merchants by generating qualified traffic at the point of sale".

A concept that builds

The application seemed to make a few followers, 35,000 registered in 2019 according to Le Point . An update seems to have compromised its interest. Comments on the store lament a drop in the value of a Ward. It goes from 0.02 euros to 0.0067 euros according to the reviews on the Play Store. "It has become almost impossible to win something, the points have largely lost their value," said a user. "The value is falling but the earnings rewarding the steps have not really gone up," said another. "The idea for this app is good. Unfortunately, we go from disappointment to disappointment at the whim of the updates , with changes to the rules, ”summed up another client.

It remains to be seen whether the application plans to make an update to convince its former users.

On March 27, the start-up announced that new steps were being counted: those you take at home, in confinement.
