Samsung will no longer produce LCD screens - Geeko

Samsung announced in a statement shared by Reuters that it will end the production of LCD screens from the end of the year. A decision concerning its production sites located in South Korea and China. The company will nevertheless continue to offer this type of screen to its partners and will continue to honor current contracts.

The decision to stop production of this type of screen is not a surprise. The South Korean manufacturer had already distanced itself from this technology last year to turn more widely to the production of QLED screens, deemed to be more efficient and more profitable. The company had also invested more than $ 10 billion to develop its production.

A few more orders to honor

Despite everything, Samsung will continue to produce LCD screens to fulfill current orders, in particular those from Apple for the iPhone 11, but the manufacturer hopes to push its customers towards newer technologies such as QLED screens (for televisions) and OLED (for smartphones). This will allow it to invest more in the production of these types of screens, or even to develop new technologies, such as microLED.

At the start of the year, LG also drew a line under its production of LCD screens.
