Coronavirus: French patients admitted to German hospitals

The coronavirus pandemic is causing an exponential increase in the number of people requiring emergency hospitalization. In eastern France, in Alsace, their care is becoming increasingly difficult due to the lack of hospital capacity. Some patients are evacuated to other less affected French regions. The neighboring region of Baden-Württemberg has offered to receive ten patients. The first arrived this Saturday March 21 in Friborg.

A sign of solidarity sent to our French neighbors. In Europe, we have to support each other, ”said Theresia Bauer, Minister of Research in Baden-Württemberg, the German region bordering Alsace. The university hospitals of Friborg, Heidelberg, Mannheim and Ulm have declared themselves ready to welcome Alsatian patients requiring respiratory assistance.

A total of ten patients must be transported quickly to Germany . Other hospitals reporting to the Minister of Health of Baden-Württemberg could also respond positively to the appeal launched by the regional government.

25,000 beds with respiratory assistance in Germany

The places are provisionally made available as long as they are not necessary for patients in this region. The Land has 2,300 beds equipped with respiratory assistance. 80% of them are currently occupied, including twenty by local patients infected with the coronavirus.

Germany has 25,000 such beds, significantly more than other neighboring countries.
