Xbox Series X: Microsoft reveals the specifications of its next console - Geeko

After presenting its design, Microsoft lifted the veil on Monday on the full technical data sheet for its next console, the Xbox Series X.

The complete technical sheet:
- CPU: 8 cores at 3.8 GHz (3.66 GHz with SMT technology) AMD Zen 2
- GPU: 12 Teraflops RDNA 2 (52 CUs at 1.825 GHz)
- RAM: 16 GB GDDR6
- Memory bandwidth: 10GB at 560 GB / s, 6GB at 336 GB / s
- NVMe 1 TB custom SSD
- Data rates: 2.4 GB / s (Direct), 4.8 Gi / s (compressed, with hardware decompression)
- Optical drive: 4K UHD Blu-Ray compatible

No big surprise on the horizon: the machine promises to be a real monster of power. With its 16 Gb of RAM, its 8-core CPU and its GPU of 12 TFLOPS, the Xbox Series X will make it possible to run all the games of the launch line-up in 4K at 60 frames per second. The frame rate will therefore increase to 120 frames per second with certain games, all while supporting ray-tracing.

The new games will not be the only ones to benefit from this power since some Xbox One games will also be entitled to these improvements. Gears of War 5 would already run at 100 frames per second today according to Microsoft. As for Minecraft, it should be entitled to a nice facelift thanks to ray-tracing, as shown in this comparison in pictures.

Shorter loading times

One of the main notable improvements for the transition to the next-gen should come from loading times, which will be much shorter. Microsoft demonstrates this with the game State of Decay 2 , which takes precisely 8 seconds to launch, against 50 on Xbox One.

True multitasking

Another improvement brought by this power gain: the next console from Microsoft will also manage multitasking much better. If the Xbox One was only able to pause a single game, its little sister will allow the player to switch from one game to another in an eyelash twist.

Memory cards

The feature that should divide the most concerns the storage of data. The console will integrate by default a space of 1 TB for storage. For those who would like to store more games on their machine, two options will be available: like the Xbox One, the Xbox Series X will allow you to connect an external hard drive via a USB port. Microsoft also introduces a new storage format that recalls the memory cards of the PS One by their size and format.

This new format was designed in collaboration with Seagate. And according to Microsoft, SEC cards will offer solid performance. The capacity mentioned at present revolves around 1 Tb.
