Google Maps now includes a feature expected by many road users. The mapping application now shows speed limits in France, reports the Journal du Geek , this Sunday. This function was already operational since last year in several countries such as the United States, the United Kingdom or Denmark.

The maximum authorized speed is thus visible on all roads on a chosen route. There is no audible alert if the limit is exceeded, but the panel then takes on another color. It is also possible to display the speed at which the vehicle is traveling by activating the speedometer option in the preferences.

A function already present on Waze

By offering this function, Google Maps aligns with Waze, the GPS application also owned by Google. This is also preferred by motorists when it comes to following a route or observing traffic.

In its latest updates, in addition to a new logo, Google Maps has incorporated new community-oriented features with the appearance of five categories: "Explore", "Routes", "Saved", "Contribute" and "News". Like Waze, Google wants users to contribute to the development of its application.
