The next iPhone 9 or SE2 as well as Apple smartphones compatible with 5G technology may be available later than expected because of the coronavirus. The Bank of America mentions a delay of one month in the marketing of the 5G model.

The arrival of the iPhone SE2 on the market is likely to be delayed “by a few months”. The release of the devices was expected in September, reports Bloomberg .

A drop in orders

Elliot Lan, an expert in Apple's supply chain, puts forward "both an availability problem and a weaker demand context" because of the coronavirus. Other experts predict "an impact of the epidemic on the launch of the latest babies" of the brand. Apple's stock price fell 4% on Friday on the New York Stock Exchange before the drop stabilized at 2.4%.

Many analysts predict difficulties for Apple. "Given the wider impact than expected, we now think that the consequences on demand could last," said Timothy Arcuri. "The risk of a drop in demand in the short term is increasing," warns UBS, which sees the phenomenon "spread beyond China".

A hope ?

All is not yet lost, however, say other specialists. The outputs of future iPhones will "depend on how production resumes and accelerates in April and May", anticipates Wamsi Mohan, analyst for Bank of America.

According to Jeffrey Kvaal of Nomura Instinet, "the risk of a massive supply problem is going down." The iPhone manufacturer Hon Hai Precision Industry Co. has also recently announced that it hopes to return to normal its Chinese production chains by the end of March.
