Huawei now markets Android tablets without Google - Geeko

Deprived of Google Web Services by the American government, which imposes heavy sanctions on the pretext of the security of its network, Huawei is today forced to sell smartphones and tablets under Android without Google Web Services. The new MatePad Pro is the first tablet from the Chinese manufacturer to be delivered without Google Web Services. No Play Store or Google Maps therefore, and even less Google Sheets or Gmail . Alternatives will have to be found. The Play Store app store has been replaced by AppGallery, Huawei's in-house store.

Specs side, Huawei is big with a Kirin 990 processor and 8 Gb of RAM under the hood, a borderless screen of 10.8 ″ (2560 × 1600) which covers 90% of the front of the tablet. Also note 4 speakers, 2 on each side of the screen, a 40W fast charger, wireless charging and 5G, all for a price of 599 euros.

An alternative to the iPad?

The MatePad Pro is positioned as a very nice alternative to the iPad Pro. In fact, the Chinese manufacturer does not hesitate to copy the strategy of its rival by offering a wide range of accessories, which include a stylus and a keyboard cover to transform the tablet into a mobile workstation.

If the absence of Gmail and Google Sheets and Google Docs will probably harm it, it is much easier to excuse the absence of GWS on a tablet than a smartphone. Indeed, in general, we control more connected objects of the house from their smartphone than their tablet, and Google Maps does not play such a central role, especially since there are alternatives to most Google software.

The marketing of the MatePad Pro is scheduled for next April in Europe.
