  • It was made from a meme generator.
  • At present, there is no treatment to prevent or cure the virus, recalls the WHO.

Raise your elbow to fight against the coronavirus? You hadn't thought about it? The Internet has done it: a meme on this subject has been circulating for several days on social networks. Resembling a screenshot of the CNN news channel, you can read the message "alcohol kills coronavirus". In a variant, it is written "the Bulgarian rakia [a brandy] kills the coronavirus".

The joke went viral and was shared in several countries, from Spain to Uganda, via Turkey and Poland, causing some Internet users to question the veracity of the message.

FAKE OFF

The screenshot has been fabricated. It comes from a site that allows you to add captions to images in a few clicks. At the start of the month, another screenshot, made using the same process, was also widely shared. It erroneously stated that "cocaine kills the coronavirus".

The screenshot with the CNN banner is regularly hijacked with this process. Since at least 2017, Internet users have affixed several false legends to it.

Does drinking a glass of wine or beer cure coronavirus? At present, there is no treatment to prevent or cure the virus, recalls the WHO. Consumed frequently, alcohol increases the risks of developing certain pathologies such as cancers or cardiovascular diseases, develops Alcohol info service.

Can spraying alcohol or chlorine all over your body kill the new #coronavirus?

No. Spraying alcohol or chlorine all over your body will not kill viruses that have already entered your body. Spraying such substances can be harmful. # COVID19 #facts https://t.co/8cSDmfRJif pic.twitter.com/Ykx6IYrHV3

Spraying alcohol or chlorine on the body is also a bad idea, says WHO. Some types of household disinfectants, with 75% ethanol, can kill the virus on certain surfaces.
