Scientists propose to pay participants in a study 250 euros to eat different foods, including sweets. The National Research Institute for Agriculture, Food and the Environment (INRAE), the dental faculty and the Clermont-Ferrand University Hospital (Puy-de-Dôme) are indeed looking for volunteers for their work. They want to better understand the effects of chewing on the digestion and assimilation of food, explains France 3 Auvergne Rhône-Alpes this Monday.

The subjects selected by the researchers will have to eat carrots, chewing gum and gelled sweets during five different sessions of 1.5 to 2 hours scheduled in the morning. The session will be done on an empty stomach: a breakfast will be offered to candidates at the end of the session. A blood test will also be performed.

Clear selection criteria

To have a chance of being chosen, volunteers must send their name and phone number to this email address: mastical.ondologie@uca.fr. The researchers will only receive healthy men between the ages of 20 and 35. They must have a strong build with a body mass index between 30 and 35 kg / m2 and must not have smoked for at least 6 months, nor practice regular physical activity, reports France 3 Auvergne Rhône -Alps.

No candidate will be accepted if he is in the process of dental treatment or if he has received orthodontic treatment in the past three years. Before starting the study protocol, subjects must also undergo a medical, dental and biological examination and take part in a test session. Their participation in scientific work will then be confirmed.
