Based on a 14-day maximum incubation period for the new coronavirus infection (Corona 19), the defense authorities say there is no basis for changing this.

Chung Eun-kyung, head of the National Defense Agency, said in a briefing at the Osong Center for Disease Control, Chungbuk, on November 26, "There is no reason to extend the standard to more than 14 days in implementing quarantine measures (corona 19)."

Chung said that some of the medical community had to change the incubation period to a maximum of three weeks. "There are not many cases where the incubation period is longer than two weeks."

Currently, the authorities have set the 14-day quarantine period in consideration of the incubation period of coronaviruses.

Chung mentioned the results of the analysis of 28 domestic patients and said, "When we analyzed those who had clear (infection) exposure time, we confirmed the characteristics that the incubation period was very short (4-5 days) and many people were infected on the first day of the onset."

"(In terms of 14 days of incubation period), not only Korea but other countries are applying the standards."

Chung reiterated that there is currently no basis for extending the incubation period.

"PCR (gene amplification) testing is a test for detecting gene fragments, so whether a live virus is contagious or contagious has to be examined and validated at another level."
