The traditional Mobile World Congress in Barcelona had to remain closed this year. In question, the fear of the Coronavirus. However, smartphone manufacturers have not postponed their announcements of new products. After Samsung and its Galaxy S20 and Galaxy Z Flip, Huawei is taking the floor to unveil its Mate Xs, its new foldable smartphone.
Surprise, while the Chinese manufacturer (under the blow of an American embargo) can no longer use Google's services on its smartphones: the Mate Xs will be launched at 2,500 euros, the equivalent of two months' net salary at Smic. A purely delusional price for a smartphone certainly high-end, but deprived of many essential applications, such as Gmail, Google Drive, Google Maps ... It is also 500 euros more than the Galaxy Fold from Samsung which we can compare.
With its foldable OLED screen of 8 '' / 20.32 cm (2480 x 2200 pixels), the Mate Xs is very similar to the Mate X that we had been able to take in hand and which was to be released in France at the end of 2019. What did not taken place (lack of sufficient supplies assured us Huawei).
The new terminal incorporates the codes: the wide screen that covers the external surface of the smartphone transforms into two 6.38 '' (rear) and 6.6 '' (front) sub-screen when folded .
Four photo modules on the back
Marked Leica, a quadruple photo sensor * promises an exemplary quality of shots, while the Mate Xs, which runs under the new high-end processor Kirin 990 (5G) of Huawei integrates a 4500 mAh battery and an internal memory of 256 GB (with 8 Gb of Ram).
On paper, we feel that Huawei wanted to set the bar very high. The brand wants to maintain its rank of second biggest seller of smartphones in the world after Samsung and wants to impose its technological superiority. In France, the Chinese manufacturer claims 18.8% market share in 2019, 26% more than in 2018. But its sales have not yet been impacted by American decisions: with the exception of the Mate 30 who just came out and who is taking the full brunt of the consequences of the embargo by doing without Google services, the old Huawei smartphones like the P30 Pro or the Nova 5T released before the embargo, they do not suffer from it.
