As the number of new coronavirus infection patients (Corona 19) is increasing rapidly, medical organizations such as the Korean Association of Infectious Diseases and the Korean Society of Epidemiology have suggested that outdoor meetings should not be held for the time being to reduce the possibility of infectious disease spread.

The Beomhak Corona19 Task Force, comprised of medical organizations, held a press conference in Seocho-gu, Seoul yesterday, and recommended that "events and meetings with multiple people should be restricted for the duration of this situation."

The committee also suggested that outdoor gatherings be "albeit less dangerous than indoors, but because people are more crowded, they may cough or sneeze into splashes."

Below are answers to your questions about Corona19.
Q. Corona 19 is known to spread to the droplets. Is there another route of infection?

Corona 19 is known to be infected by droplets (sprays) that occur when a person coughs. Other people's noses, mucous membranes, and mouth can also be infected.

In special cases, such as the lack of air circulation in hotels and hospitals, the entire building may be contaminated.

Corona 19 is not immune to all people and people all over the world, so even a small amount of virus becomes infected and causes symptoms.

Q. Why is Corona 19 so fast?

▶ Initial symptoms are mild. Infected with the virus, the patient does not become aware of normal social activities.

In the early stages of symptoms, many virus transmissions occurred and seem to be infected by many.

Q. There is a story that lung damage is severe after getting Corona 19.

▶ Any pneumonia can have lung damage. It's not just Corona 19.

Corona 19 is not yet three months old (our country), so we don't know the sequelae. You really need to watch the patient's condition.

Q. What is the mortality rate for Corona 19?

▶ In children, the symptoms are very mild and there are few deaths. However, as the age increases, mortality rates of 8-9% are reported in the 70s and 80s.

Q. Have you ever had corona 19 and become infected again?

▶ The milder the symptoms, the longer the antibody (against the virus) lasts. It may disappear in six months or a year.

If symptoms are severe, antibodies can go for about a year and a half. So if you are mildly ill you can get sick again later this year.

There's no saying that `` mutations in the Corona 19 virus will increase the mortality rate. '' As the transmission continues, the symptoms become milder.

Q. What is the opinion that Corona 19 can be asymptomatic?

▶ It is a part that needs research. You may not have thought it was a symptom.

Q. Is it possible for two weeks for Corona 19 to be transmitted?

▶ It is hard to say now. As the number of patients increases, the number of exceptional cases increases.

In China, it may go up to 24 days, depending on the level of human immunity.

Q. Do I need to enter Japan for people from China?

▶ The United States has slowed considerably due to immigration. But the situation is different from ours.

Since I had already entered many countries before, I entered Singapore, Hong Kong, and China, but eventually (many people in Korea) developed.

Q. Can you see the 31st patient as a 'super propagator'?

▶ 'Super Prophet' is a definition. In Mers, he saw five or more people.

Patient 31 has not yet finished epidemiological studies. Since community infections have begun, it is advisable to refrain from the expression 'super propagator'.

Why don't we define it as a superpropagation situation (or event)?

Q. Have you ever studied scenarios, such as predicting infection and death?

Modeling was used to predict the number of patients when 28 patients came out and had a sporadic outbreak in the community.

The same situation as the Japanese cruise ships caused outbreaks involving certain religious groups. We are doing another modeling study.

It's a new virus, so all the people are immune. I don't know yet how well modeling works.

Q With so many Corona19 patients, we should now go to a mitigation strategy that minimizes damage minimization.

▶ (advanced) The containment strategy is to prevent the state from entering the epidemic. If we go to the mitigation strategy, all citizens should participate.

If you have thorough personal hygiene and mild respiratory symptoms, observe 4 to 5 days, and if you have a high fever over 38 degrees or severe symptoms, you should see a doctor. If your symptoms are mild, you do not have to go to a large hospital.

Chronic patients and seniors aged 65 or older are vulnerable to infection, so don't go to a place where many people gather and wear a mask when you go out. Sufficient support must be provided at school and at work.
